Allowing Positivity To Be Your Professional Fuel

We’ve said it before and we’ll keep saying it: positivity is key! Overcoming struggles is largely a mental process. And adopting a positive outlook, finding the silver linings amidst difficulties, will amplify your sense of optimism, which will fuel you to keep going. Along the way, it can be easy to feel down about your progress. It may feel like you’re not reaching your goals quickly enough. But don’t panic! Instead, take time to appreciate how much you’re already grown, and the ways you’ve developed your unique professional strengths. It takes all different sorts of efforts in order for your workplace community and overall company to flourish. Lean into those strengths. And check out what the pros below have to say for ways to keep going amidst any workplace situation.
We love this series of short and sweet pieces of advice from Dr. Carole Kanchier at jobboom “Maintain optimism. Expect good things. Keep a daily diary of good experiences. Live in the present. Don’t dwell on the past or worry about what might happen. Let go of attachments. The more attached you are to something, the greater the fear of losing it. Acknowledge your accomplishments. Judge these against personal standards of self improvements. Have the courage of your convictions. Don’t change for others or compare yourself with them.” This holistic set of methods will help you to both create and maintain a sense of perseverance. Thinking positively will enable you to achieve positive outcomes. So think positively about the present! Maintain a sense of mindfulness to keep going and access optimal workplace successes. And make sure you’re acknowledging and appreciating all that you have already achieved along the way to reaching where you already are, even as you strive to keep going and accomplish even more.
We also adore this thorough suggestion from Duncan Muguku at Thrive Yard: “Encouraging Yourself. The second worst offender to progress is negative thoughts – the first offender to progress is inaction. Negative self-talk is a cancer to progress. It causes many to quit prematurely when they face disappointments. Negativity wants you to feel sorry for yourself and doubt your abilities to succeed. Think of yourself in a kind and positive way. Acknowledge all the things that you like about yourself. Everyone has something special to offer the world. Avoid the pattern of thinking that just because you failed in one thing you will fail in everything. Struggles are a part of life. A river forges its way by fighting rocks gradually over time until it has a well-defined path. Remember back to when you were learning to ride a bicycle, it took determination to master balancing on a bicycle but once the pattern was learned it was firmly imprinted in one’s mind. Similarly the mind is strengthened from tackling current challenges and you could identify familiar patterns and cycles which can be reapplied to future problem solving.” The world already sends enough negativity your way. Make sure you’re not adding to it by overly criticizing yourself. Getting mired in self-doubt can also cause you to feel overwhelmed, leading you to not only take a passive role in the happenings of your life but to refrain from doing anything at all to keep moving forward. Adopting a positive mindset will allow you to see professional difficulties as opportunities to rise to challenges, strengthening your logistical and interpersonal skill sets. And, once again, make sure you’re showing yourself the same appreciation that you’re offering up to your bosses and coworkers. Be kind to yourself as you cultivate your perseverance while growing into your role.
Show yourself kindness. It’s okay to not be perfect right off the bat. Learning and growing–and making mistakes along the way–are a normal part of being human, both within your workplace and beyond. The most important step is to persist in the face of difficulties rather than becoming discouraged and giving up. Having the right mindset will help you to engage in the best possible actions even amidst tricky situations. And once you’ve moved past those obstacles, leave them in the past. Then acknowledge the accomplishment of successfully navigating through them!
