Make Working From Home Work For You

Today we’re doubling up on our content, offering you professional work from home tips as well as affirmations to help boost your mood and find moments of calm amidst this transition.
First up, we’re highlighting this suggestion from “20 Tips for Working From Home” by Jill Duffy at PC Magazine: “Create a Morning Routine. Deciding you’ll sit down at your desk and start work at a certain time is one thing. Creating a routine that guides you into the chair is another. What in your morning routine indicates you’re about to start work? It might be making a cup of coffee…It might be getting dressed (wearing pajama pants to work is a perk for some, but a bad strategy for others). A routine can be more powerful than a clock at helping you get started each day.” Think about ways to establish a routine for disconnecting, too! For example, if you usually listen to music on your commute home, fire up those tunes. This transition period also provides you with an opportunity to think about ways you can more thoroughly disconnect from work once you’re back in your office, ways to come back reinvigorated each day.
Next, be sure to check out this key tip from Regina Borsellino at The Muse: “Communicate, Communicate, Communicate. If you don’t usually work from home, chances are there will be some bumps in the road if you have to suddenly go fully remote. The key to steering through these bumps is communication—especially with your manager and direct reports. Either before you make the switch or as soon as you know it’s happening, come up with a plan that lays out expectations for how often you should check in and how you’ll convey any changes or new assignments to one another. Do the same with anyone you usually work collaboratively with throughout the day.” Just as our dedicated Contemporaries staff members are reaching out to check in with you, make sure you are also being proactive when communicating with your co-workers and supervisors. It’s better to take a minute to ask a question than have to spend hours dealing with a mistake caused by a lack of communication. You can also think of these correspondences with your colleagues as a chance to remotely connect with your workplace community.
Finally, as promised, here are today’s sayings for you. Remember your own resilience amidst any new circumstances you’re encountering. Look to the affirmations below to help you do just that:
- “All that I need is within me.”
- “I cherish this day, this moment right now.”
- “I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
We appreciate you taking the time to read over our tips and tricks for making the transition to working remotely! Check back tomorrow as we finish up the week with even more ways to make working from home work for you.
