Keep Your Workplace Momentum Going

Welcome back! We hope you had a chance to rest up and recharge over the weekend, allowing you to return to your workplace with a sense of renewed energy. While the initial burst of energy you’ve experienced in moving forward in your professional endeavors may be a great way to get started, you’ll need to strategize ways to harness that strength and use it to keep your momentum going. This week we’ll be focusing on ways to do just that. And we’ve turned to the pros below to help get you started.
We love this positive mindset Blake Beattie at CEO Magazine proposes for maintaining your stamina. “Fun. If something is enjoyable, it is so much easier to maintain motivation. To keep momentum going, consider doing one of the following things:
- Change the activities you’re using to achieve your goals — is there anything you can do to make it more fun?
- Change the way you think about your goals
- Give yourself a fun reward for achieving smaller goals
- Delegate if you can (it makes sense to do so)”
For starters, think of “delegating” as a way to acknowledge where your co-workers’ strengths complement your own. You don’t need to view asking for help as a weakness—there will come a time when your colleague will need to return the favor! Include them in your pursuit of fun in the workplace; collaboration is key in any professional setting and your workplace community will definitely appreciate you sharing your positivity.
Thursday Bram at Lifehack offers up a great way to keep going under any circumstances: “Setting Up Balance. Key to creating balance is ensuring that you do follow through on any commitments you made upon achieving your goal. Maybe you set a secondary goal — something that provided a little continuation and helped you take advantage of the rush of meeting your initial ambition. Or maybe you have a new project set for you by someone else as a product of your prior effort. You may not be in a position to throw quite as much at your new goal as your last, but if it is important enough for you to follow through on, you’ll find yourself putting at least some effort into it. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you’re able to maintain balance with other parts of your life in the long run. But you may need to set a few initial limits to ensure that any new projects won’t consume your every waking moment.” As any Jedi master will tell you, the key to life is bringing balance to the Force—maintaining equilibrium between all of life’s darkness alongside its light. Once you’ve found fun and lightness in your work, make sure to not get entirely wrapped up in the increased speed with which you’ll find yourself completing tasks. Your goal in returning to work is finding a sustainable pace that will last you through your current position and all of the roles you’ll grow into.
Let the spark of renewed energy ignite your professional passion. And then keep these methods in mind to keep that momentum going. We know you’ll find both the fun and balance to be found in returning to work amidst these uncertain times.
