Honoring Black History Month

by Feb 8, 2021

Welcome back! It’s February, and that means that it’s Black History Month. We firmly believe that diversity strengthens the capacities of organizations, as differences of attributes and experiences broaden knowledge bases across workplace communities. This week our blog will focus on ways to honor Black History Month within professional environments and beyond. And today we’re kickstarting the week by looking to important figures for words of inspiration, highlighting just a few of the 30 Quotes From Powerful Leaders To Celebrate Black History Month assembled by Rachel Mulcahy:

  • “It isn’t where you come from; it’s where you’re going that counts.” – Ella Fitzgerald
  • “Every time you state what you want or believe, you’re the first to hear it. It’s a message to both you and others about what you think is possible. Don’t put a ceiling on yourself.” – Oprah Winfrey
  • “A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.” – Jackie Robinson

Make sure to read all of the rest of the featured quotations. Let these words inspire you to listen to and learn from marginalized voices. You can also find more inspiration from Black voices by checking out the 2021 edition of the Boston Public Library’s Black is… book list, featuring everything from memoir to cookbooks to poetry. In addition to this wide array of authors, we also encourage you to learn more about the diverse variety of leaders locally, in and around Boston. Join us again throughout the week as we honor not only Black history but the present while looking towards a brighter future.
