Finding Joy At Your Job

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely break from work yesterday. Just in case you’re encountering difficulties getting back into the swing of things while back at work today, we’ve put together ways to inspire joy in yourself and others while on the clock today. And every day!
Catherine Jessen at The Muse offers up a suggestion that is sure to put a smile on your face–as well as everyone around you! “Have a Mini Dance Party During that Midday Slump. Once you have the playlists made, use them to help you get moving! Throw in some headphones, and have a mini dance party at your desk or in your office. You’ll get your heart pumping and your energy up, and you won’t be able to help but feeling a little bit happier.” So get those endorphins flowing!
Nataly Kogan at happier provides scientifically-proven ways to boost your mood in the workplace. Our favorite involves some overt teamwork: “Help a colleague. Helping others makes you happier. And helping your colleagues makes you happier at work…You don’t have to do anything huge or heroic to help. Grab your colleague’s favorite beverage when you get your coffee. Ask if they need help on a project. Offer to do something simple, like type up notes after a meeting.” This will also strengthen your connections with your colleagues, which is an invaluable way to add a bit of joy to your day while also helping make you an even better employee.
And finally, Susan M. Heathfield at The Balance Careers clues us in to a path for personal employment happiness. “Take Charge of Your Own Professional and Personal Development. Take charge of your own growth by investing in your personal and professional development. Develop a plan and goals for your career, then pursue them. Ask for specific and meaningful help from your boss. Look for assignments that will help you achieve career milestones or learn specific skills.” Learning even more about how to be the best you can be at the job you have will provide you with a happiness you can keep with you for life.
Being a force for positivity in your workplace is a surefire way to make you stand out to both your co-workers and your employer. If you’re finding it hard to keep up the holiday-inspired joy, just think back on these tips. And come back to the blog tomorrow for even more mood boosters with our Holiday Feel Good Friday!
