A Day of Service

by Jan 20, 2020

Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s racial and economic justice. Though if you find yourself wondering about how to continue working towards making the world a better place, don’t limit your contribution to just today. Check out the resources below for ways to make a difference within your communities.

The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) website explains the history of this holiday as well as providing visitors with a way to input their city or zip code to find local opportunities: “The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 20, 2020, marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as ‘a day on, not a day off,’ MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.”

Boston Cares will be coordinating volunteer efforts at the Boston Latin School “to support local Boston adults and teens by creating workforce development learning tools for community organizations and schools throughout the city of Boston.” And Mass.gov provides an overview of service events happening today in Boston, Cambridge, and beyond.

Today and every day Contemporaries is proud that our diverse workforce reflects the city of Boston and allows us to provide our clients with an inclusive and balanced team.  Diversity strengthens the capacities of organizations as difference of attributes and experiences broaden its knowledge base. Remember that every individual with whom you interact comes from a different background and possesses specific characteristics, attributes, and experiences that contribute to their unique strengths.
