Ways To Keep Growing In Any Professional Environment

As you begin on your professional development journey, remember that there’s always more room to grow. Take a moment to congratulate yourself on the progress that you’ve made so far–and then keep going! Think of everything you’ve learned so far as a trellis upon which you can expand your self-improvement. And that trellis is built both of your own efforts and the contributions of everyone around you in your workplace. The pros we’re consulting today will help you keep all of that in mind.
Isabelle Salemme at Pipefy offers up a great starting place for your self-improvement journey: “Stay Focused and Avoid Distractions. The most productive professionals in the world have named distraction as productivity’s number one enemy…Never lose sight of your goals along with your journey. Every time you feel tempted to waste some time checking out your Facebook feed or watching your favorite YouTube channels, remember what’s at stake. Sustainable continuous improvements are part of a slow evolutionary process. It feeds off consistent progress. Make sure you remember that. Focus on taking one step at a time and completing the previous task before starting a new one.” Keep your focus on growing forwards and upwards. Remember, too, that your colleagues are counting on you to help them keep on task as well! Staying on task will ensure that you’re the most alert you can be, which means you’ll be the most aware of even further opportunities to grow as they arise all around you in your professional environment.
Vartika Kashyap at ProofHub provides this stellar suggestion: “Communicate better. Communication is a two-way street. Effective communication is a practice that makes you certain about things at work, learn new and improved ways to achieve better results, and finally, improve overall work performance. Remember, every opinion matters and it can certainly help you take your work performance to a new level.” Maintaining an open mind establishes a great foundation for keeping your ears open. Listening to your bosses and colleagues will allow you to gain different perspectives and find new solutions to any problems you may encounter–which will take your work performance to a whole new level.
The process here is the point. As you keep growing in any and all of the professional environment in which you may find yourself, your flexibility is key. It’s also a quality all employers appreciate! If you feel as if you already know all there is to know, if you feel as though you’ve already grown as much as you can grow, pause for a moment. Though further change may initially seem incremental, each small step contributes to your overall self-improvement. Be willing to seek out any opportunities for change. And check back tomorrow for our Feel Good Friday: Growth installment that will offer up thoughts on how to do that in even more ways.
