Toxic Thinking and Success

by Dec 28, 2017

Toxic and generally negative thoughts unfortunately plague us all at one point or another, especially about work. It’s easy to slip into negativity when you’re feeling defeated, which can make you even less motivated to do better. In his article, Travis Bradberry identifies some toxic thoughts to keep out of your head if you want to gain momentum and success at work. We’ve highlighted a few of our favorite points below:

  • Perfection = success: I think we can all agree that no one is perfect, so remember that about yourself as well! Everyone makes mistakes and obsessing over our imperfections distracts us from improving and prevents us from seeing our strengths.
  • Other’s approval = success: Remember that your self worth comes from within. People will always have opinions about you, good or bad. But it’s important to remember that you don’t need everyone’s approval to succeed. Remember to take people’s opinions with a grain of salt and that they’re subjective.
  • Emotions = reality: We can all recall a time that we’ve overreacted, or otherwise perceived a situation as far worse than it really is due to our emotions. It can be challenging to remember, but try to keep everything in perspective, and know that it probably isn’t as bad as you think/feel it is.
