How To Persevere In Any Work Environment

by Mar 16, 2021

Today we’re continuing our theme of maintaining your sense of endurance within any professional environment, on-site or remote. As we continue navigating the year mark of our unprecedented times, we know that you might be feeling blue. But you have the strength to pull through! We know that it’s been hard, but you’ve already made it this far. To help remind you of your strength, and to help keep you in a positive mindset, we’ve turned to the pros for ways to persevere. They’ve had to overcome obstacles in order to conceive of these strategies–and you can, too. Check out their concrete suggestions below for ways to put your endurance gameplans into action no matter your workplace.

We love this suggestion from Dr. Carole Kanchier at Jobboom: “Intend to achieve your goal. Outline your goal, strategies, and timeline. Know resources that can help you attain it, including individuals and the Internet. Break the goal into small steps, working backward from your desired outcome and attainment date.” Any big task can seem overwhelming at first. When faced with a new project, your initial instinct might be fear–but don’t panic! Your bosses and colleagues have all been through what you’re going through (or at least similar circumstances) in terms of achieving your goals. You don’t have to come up with solutions all on your own. If you’re encountering difficulties, let those around you help you figure out ways to break down big goals into smaller actions. It’s okay to take things one step at a time! And remember that your co-workers and employers will also appreciate your recognition of their expertise in subject matters that are your areas of opportunity. Know that you can turn to your workplace community, even if you’re not all physically together, to work towards common goals.

Hanna Saba at LinkedIn provides another great framework for setting up steps to maximize your perseverance at work: “Plan. Your plan is the roadmap to your desired destination. The adage: ‘Plan your work, and work your plan’ holds true. Don’t fly into action without having a detailed plan. However, planning is neither rigid nor a one-time activity  that takes place only before action. Rather, it is an adaptable, dynamic, flexible, and continuous process that happens all the time until the achievement of your goals. During the execution of your plan, and as you reach one milestone after another, you need to review, revise, and re-evaluate your work, and then re-launch. Planning also means identifying potential obstacles and problems, and preparing to tackle them as they arise.” Maintaining a sense of flexibility is key while both encountering new crossroads and continuing to navigate the circumstances these unprecedented times may have thrown your way. Continuing to develop and strengthen your adaptability will only help you as you continue to grow in the role that you currently hold–and all of the positions you aspire to beyond. Keep your spirits up by remembering that you have the means to make a game plan, as well as ways to create new ones should any new obstacles arise.

Take a deep breath. Unclench your jaw and relax your shoulders. Keep getting sleep and staying hydrated. Just as these are small steps to getting through your everyday life, remember that you’ll be at your most productive by breaking down any work task into small steps as well. You’ve got this! We know you can take steps each and every day to improve your endurance within any professional environment, and let your unique workplace strengths shine. Visit our blog again tomorrow for even more reminders of ways to keep going as we continue to transition from winter into spring.
