Using “Best Practice” Work Habits Will Pay Off!

by Jul 8, 2021

If you treat a job as something you are forced to do and never go the extra distance, in addition to being very unhappy, you will also be sabotaging your own chances for achieving career success. If, on the other hand, you view each work occasion as an avenue to learn as much as you can and become more marketable, then you are taking advantage of a golden opportunity for growth and maximizing your prospects for fulfilling your career goals.

One way to switch your mindset is to utilize “Best Practice” work habits which will become second nature when performed long enough. No matter what position, industry, or organization you are hoping to land in, preparing now will be the first step to eventually getting there.

Best Practice habits include:

  • Always being punctual or even early when it comes to arriving at work or signing on to a remote position.
  • Asking others if they need help once you have finished your own work. Do not simply view downtime as a chance to catch up with social media posts, use it to show your teammates and supervisors that you want to be a part of the organization’s success and are willing to go the extra distance to help them achieve their goals.
  • If a project requires experience or knowledge involving a special software program or other skill you are not familiar with, ask your supervisor if there is any way to receive training in order to help the team and contribute to their overall success.
  • Making sure to complete the work, tasks, and items you are responsible for on time. If realistically you cannot finish an assigned job, make sure to convey this information to your supervisor along with the reason you are unable to meet the deadline.
  • Stay present, focused, and make such to communicate with colleagues and supervisors both verbally and in writing.
