Stuck In a Rut? Tips To Increase Productivity

by Jul 20, 2018

It’s easy to end up stuck in a rut at work. Sometimes, especially after being somewhere for awhile. The days can seem longer, the work less interesting, and the motivation hard to find.

It’s important to try to understand why you’re feeling this way, and what you can do to help it. We coach people all the time on how to handle this type of problem, so here are a few of our tips.

  • Getting enough sleep?: If you’re tired at work day in and day out, it’s easy to start to view work as exhausting and monotonous. Consider changing up your schedule and going to sleep a little earlier on work nights. You may find that with a bit more rest, you’re more motivated to boost your productivity.
  • Too many distractions?: We’re all guilty of replying to a text or glancing at social media at work, but the bottom line is that your phone is a distraction. Are you finding that it’s becoming too much of one? Try leaving your phone in your bag as an experiment to see how much more you get done.
  • Need more work?: Maybe you feel stuck in a rut because you finish your work too quickly, or the work is becoming too easy and therefore boring to you. If you’re done early, take initiative to ask your coworkers and supervisors if there’s anything else you can help with. We always recommend our employees do this, whether you feel bored or not. If you feel you aren’t being challenged, talk to your supervisor. They may have some more advanced projects in mind, and at the very least can help you to get motivated again at work.

With that, we hope everyone enjoys their weekend. If you relate at all to this post, ponder these points this weekend, and maybe give some of the strategies a try on Monday.
