Bringing Your Best Self Back To Work

Got a case of the back to work blues? For many, this week marks a return to what could be seen as the daily grind–without a single festive holiday in sight! But there is a better way to frame this time of year: think of it like the first day of school. Know that there is excitement to be found in this transition alongside the readjustment.
In discussing “8 things successful people do after getting back from vacation,” Áine Cain at the Business Insider offers up a way to stay refreshed: “You might be tempted to work yourself into the ground after your vacation. After all, you’ve had your time to relax. Now, you’ve got to put your nose to the grindstone. But this approach will probably end up backfiring. Instead…make sure you take breaks, stretch, and eat well during the day.” Remember, this is a time for renewal! In order to truly hit the ground running while giving your work your all, you need to make sure you’re taking care of yourself–which we know will have been on many of your New Year’s resolutions lists!
Next up, Jenn Christensen at CNN Health provides glimpses into the insights of psychiatrist and behavioral neuroscience Dr. Angelos Halaris alongside her own suggestions on getting back into your work groove: “Ease back into work. ‘Don’t jump into the cold water, you’ll have a heart attack. Ease your way back into your routine,’ Halaris said. Set small goals to feel a sense of accomplishment. ‘If you ease into this with full awareness, rather than trying to plan a ton and hope to get it all done in the next 24 hours, it helps.’” This may also feel counterintuitive! But buildings are built brick by brick and miles are walked step by step. Even though we know you’re a dedicated professional fully capable of handling every task put before you, breaking a big assignment down into more digestible pieces is actually a valuable skill to master for both the workplace and beyond.
Going back to work doesn’t have to be a drag! With a fresh start after the holidays comes a chance to bring your best self to the table. Instead of obsessing about the past, leave behind anything that didn’t serve you–bring your best self back to work. This is a chance to let your boss and co-workers get to know the brand new you! And we look forward to taking that journey alongside you. Check back all throughout this week for even more ways to bring a sense of professional renewal.
